On Thursday last week, QSAN attended the QCOSS Queensland Budget Breakfast, joining community sector leaders to hear directly from the Queensland Treasurer about the 2026–27 Queensland Budget and what it means for Queensland's community services sector. It was a valuable opportunity to hear the Government's priorities, connect with sector colleagues, and reflect on the challenges and opportunities ahead. The event highlighted the growing gap between the level of investment and the increasing demand for services addressing violence against women and children. While the Budget includes important commitments across the sector, there was broad recognition that significant work remains to ensure specialist services have the sustainable funding needed to meet community need. As Queensland's peak body for specialist sexual violence support and prevention services, QSAN knows that meaningful progress requires long-term investment across prevention, early intervention, crisis response, healing and recovery. We will continue to advocate for a strong, sustainable specialist sexual violence sector that is equipped to support victim-survivors, strengthen the workforce, and drive the systemic change needed to end sexual violence. This reflects QSAN's commitment to strengthening the sector, centring survivor voices, and driving lasting change. Thank you to QCOSS for bringing the sector together for this important conversation. We look forward to continuing to work alongside our members, government and sector partners to ensure Queensland's investment reflects the scale of the challenge and the importance of specialist sexual violence services. #QldBudget #CommunityServices #SexualViolence #EndSexualViolence

As we look ahead to Sexual Violence Awareness Month (SVAM) this October, preparations are already underway across Queensland. QSAN is once again partnering with our member organisations to facilitate creative art workshops with victim-survivors, providing a safe and meaningful opportunity for participants to express what this year's campaign theme means to them. The theme for SVAM 2026 is ‘No More Silence, Prevent Sexual Violence’. This is a call to action for us all. It means believing victim-survivors when they speak about their experiences. It means challenging the stigma and attitudes that allow sexual violence to remain hidden. It means working together to create communities where respect, consent and safety are the norm, and where prevention is everyone's responsibility. We can't wait to showcase the inspiring artwork created throughout the lead-up to Sexual Violence Awareness Month and continue this important conversation with communities across Queensland. #NoMoreSilence #PreventSexualViolence #SVAM2026 #BelieveSurvivors
