QSAN applauds the strong statements in this article from our colleague, Dr Rachael Burgin, an expert in sexual violence prevention in Australia providing a practical way forward for the AFL, in light of the sexual violence allegations made this week. "Rachael Burgin, a senior lecturer at Swinburne University, and CEO of Rape and Sexual Assault Research and Advocacy (RASARA), added that the Swans' move was not necessarily a "win for accountability". "The AFL and clubs need to take responsibility for the culture that allows rape and sexual assault to thrive in Australia." "We need national standards for how sporting clubs prevent and respond to violence against women, transparent reporting on clubs' compliance with those standards and we need governments to regulate that." "Frankly, women in this country who love and play football, including those in the ALFW, deserve a competition that takes their safety as seriously as it takes the score."

QSAN was pleased to join colleagues and stakeholders in Townsville yesterday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Townsville Region Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). For a decade, SART has demonstrated the importance of a coordinated and collaborative response to sexual violence - bringing services together with a shared focus on improving the experiences and outcomes of victim-survivors. #SexualViolence #SupportingSurvivors #SexualViolenceResponse #Townsville

📢 The Sexual Violence Review Board is still seeking people to share their experiences of providing digital evidence. If you are a victim-survivor who has provided digital evidence - such as a mobile phone, messages, social media communications, photos or other digital material - you can share your experience in a voluntary and confidential conversation. It does not matter if your case did not proceed to court. The Review Board also welcomes insights from specialist support workers who have supported victim-survivors through these processes. Conversations take approximately 60 minutes and can be held online, by phone or in person. If you work with victim-survivors, please consider sharing this post with your networks or with people you support who may wish to participate. More information about the digital evidence review is on the Sexual Violence Review Board website: https://www.victimscommissioner.qld.gov.au/about/sexual-violence-review-board/digital-evidence-review Victim-survivors or service providers who would like to share their experience are encouraged to email the Board at: [email protected]. #SexualViolence #VictimSurvivors #SystemicChange #Queensland
